Spindle palm (Hyophorbe verschaffeltii) - Buy 5 Seeds?
The spindle palm is among the most beautiful palms in the world and originally grows on Rodrigues, an island belonging to Mauritius known for the extinct rhodriguessolitaire, a flightless bird akin to the dodo. On Rodrigues, about 50 trees remain from the original population since the rest have been destroyed by logging. In the wild, the palm grows up to 6 metres high and in the Netherlands we can keep the species as a tub or houseplant with a minimum temperature of about 10 degrees Celsius. The plant is easy to keep.
Sowing description:Try carefully notching the seeds with a sharp knife or saw and soak in lukewarm water for 48 hours. Then sow in sowing soil and allow to germinate in a warm place (25grC). Cover with cling film or glass and keep soil constantly moist.
