The Sinningia (Gloxinia) originates from the subtropical forests of Brazil. This Sinningia 'Kaiser Wilhelm' grows well on a terrace or balcony, but also in your living room. The plant is easy to grow and flowers all summer. Sinningia grows best in a pot with good potting soil. Ensure drainage in the flower pot by making enough holes in the bottom. Cover the bottom with potsherds or a layer of hydro pellets. Fill the flower pot almost completely with soil and place the tubers of the sinningia in the pot. Top up with a layer of soil of about two centimetres and press firmly. Immediately after planting, water generously. A sheltered spot in partial sun is fine. Protect the sinningia from bright sunlight and draughts.Water a little daily. Water only on potting soil, not on the leaves. Up to and including the flowering period, the potting soil should never become dry. In autumn, after flowering, sinningia does not need to be watered. Sinningia tubers can easily overwinter by keeping them dry and frost-free.
