Hardy Clematis

Environmentally consciously grown evergreen Clematis

The Clematis is grown consciously. The nursery is MPS certified and MPS A qualified. Apart from this certification, it makes extensive use of organic crop protection in the form of predatory mites and plant enhancers. Garden Select is proud of this collaboration with an environmentally conscious grower!

Hardy Clematis plants

Clematis or woodland vine is originally a forest plant, which is why they do not like to stand with their roots directly in sunlight. They grow up towards the light. A spot in semi-shade to full sun is therefore ideal. Make sure that sufficient water can always reach the roots; covering the roots with a roof tile to protect them from the sun also keeps rainwater away. So that's not a good idea. If necessary, plant other plants around the base to take away direct sunlight.

A sheltered spot out of the cold winter wind is recommended. Plant the plant a little deeper in somewhat humus-rich soil. The tendrils cling to a climbing frame or branches of a shrub. Clematis 'Pixie' has the nice feature that it will act as a ground cover if it does not find a foothold on a wall.

The Clematis provides a sight-proof separation with flowers in early spring. Most evergreen Clematis are hardy to moderately hardy to a temperature of -12 degrees Celsius. This is indicated by the species of Clematis.

Clematis (woodland vine) pruning

Clematis flowers are already formed the year before. Prune the long twigs back slightly after flowering so that new shoots form. Pruning is not necessary.
