Pink Dwarf Banana (Musa Velutina) - Buy 10 Seeds?
Family: Musaceae
Latin name: Musa velutina
Dutch name: Pink dwarf banana
Origin: India
This species produces pretty pink flowers followed by sweet, edible, pink bananas. The species naturally stays quite small (maximum 2 metres), making it extremely suitable for growing in a tub. The plant can flower as early as 2 years and is best protected from temperatures below freezing. The roots can survive down to -5 degrees Celsius, but the plant will die off above ground in the process. Provide a sheltered location without bright sun.
Sowing description: Scour the seeds with sandpaper and soak in lukewarm water for 48 hours. Then sow in soil for sowing. Keep soil constantly moist, cover with cling film or glass and allow to germinate in a warm place in the house (e.g. in the sun or near a heater). Germination can take several weeks to months and can follow as long as the seeds are hard.
Sowing time: All year
Difficulty: Average
Minimum temperature: -5 degrees Celsius
