Phlox mix is a pretty selection for the garden with several beautiful flowers. The flowers are twisted in the bud, divided into five petals and a hole in the centre. The flowers spread a delicate fragrance and are attractive to butterflies. Phlox also has the Dutch name vlambloem. Height is 30-60 cm.Phlox is a perennial that grows best in the open ground. Dig a spacious planting hole and loosen the soil well. Improve poor garden soil by mixing in compost and cow manure pellets. Place the root ball of Phlox at the right height in the planting hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. Phlox grows and blooms well in full sun or semi-shade and is also an attractive cut flower. Cover the plants in winter with a layer of fallen leaves. Apply garden fertiliser in early spring. Trim all leaves in spring. New shoots will soon appear above ground.
