Natal bird of paradise flower (Strelitzia nicolai) - Buy 10 Seeds?
Family: Strelitziaceae
Latin name: Strelitzia nicolai
Dutch name: Natal bird of paradise flower
Origin: South Africa
At 10 metres, the natal bird of paradise flower grows quite a bit larger than the common orange bird of paradise flower in the wild and produces white flowers with a light blue petal. In the tub, this species reaches a maximum height of 3 metres, making it well suited for the patio. It is a fast grower that likes to stand in the sun with leaves that grow in a nice fan shape (as seen with the traveller's tree), especially in later life. The minimum temperature for the species is around 0 degrees Celsius.
Sowing description: First remove the orange fluff from the seeds. Then soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 24-48 hours and sow in sowing soil. Keep soil constantly moist, cover with cling film or glass and allow to germinate in a warm place indoors. Germination can take several months.
Sowing time: Year-round
Difficulty: Average
Minimum temperature: 0 degrees Celsius
