Kiwano / Horned Cucumber
The kiwano has a fresh-sweet flavour and resembles a combination of lemon and banana. The flesh is used in fruit salads and desserts.
Sow from March-April in pots at 22-25º C, transplant after about 4 weeks in a hobby greenhouse. The plant should be tied up. The female flowers, which are easy to recognise as they already have a fruiting principle underneath, should preferably be pollinated by hand.
