Care
With Hydrangeas, it is important to cut off the spent flowers. In winter, however, these are best left alone. They then form a protection for the new flower buds against frost and inclement winds. In March, when the danger of frost has passed, all brown, old, spent flowers can be pruned back to just above the first or second healthy bud. This type of pruning encourages the growth of new shoots and ensures that flower size does not decline. All types of Hydrangeas absolutely do not like drought. Give them plenty of water when dry, especially in spring and summer. It is not wise to give them a little water every now and then. It is best to give them a large amount of water at once. Sometimes Hydrangeas become a little bare at the bottom during the flowering season. The leaves may also turn yellow. This is almost always caused by drought.
