The Scadoxus comes from South Africa and is related to the Amaryllidaceae, this plant is often grown in pots and can be grown indoors or in a greenhouse. The plant usually blooms in late spring or summer. The flowers are striking and can bloom for several weeks. In late spring, it is also a beautiful patio plant.

With these guidelines, you can enjoy a healthy potted Scadoxus.

Watering is done after planting the bulb, once sufficiently wetting the soil, then water very little until flowering.

When the flower has finished flowering, you can water it again with some plant food. After flowering, you will be left with a nice green plant. If the leaves turn yellow, put it away frost-free and stop watering it, the bulb will go dormant and sprout again in spring and you can start giving it very little water again.

If you see the plant sprouting again then you can give it some more heat and the cycle starts again.
