The dahlia 'Apricot Star' attracts attention in the second half of summer. Flower-strewn plants make a beautiful garden decoration. The semi-spherical flowers sitting atop tall stems consist of needle-shaped, elongated petals. The subtle pale pink of the petal tips gradually changes to the pale yellow heart of the flower. The large, 15-centimetre-wide flowers sparkle in the sun. The dahlia 'Apricot Star' flowers profusely from July until the first colder days of autumn. You can use the 90- to 120-centimetre-long stems as durable and beautiful cut flowers.

Dahlias should be planted in sunny or only partially shaded areas. Proper exposure to sunlight is crucial for healthy development and bright, saturated colour of the flowers. Because of the relatively substantial height and brittleness of the stems, we do not recommend growing dahlias in windy locations. It may be necessary to expand the flower-bearing stems. Dahlia needs neutral or slightly acidic soil that is rich in nutrients, permeable and constantly moist. Plant dahlias every 50 to 60 centimetres. Set the tuber roots about 5 to 10 centimetres deep from April to June. Dahlia needs water during prolonged periods of drought. Wilted flowers should be removed. Dahlia responds well to fertilisation with manure, compost and mineral fertilisers.

Dahlia rhizomes cannot overwinter in the ground and should be dug out in autumn. First cut off the stem and then carefully dig out the rootstock. Place the rootstocks in boxes which should then be stored in a dry room with a temperature between 2 and 4?C. Cover the rootstock with sand or peat for even safer storage. If you notice firmness loss or wrinkles on the rootstocks, you can slightly moisten them.
