The flowers of Iris sibirica Peacock Mix are beautifully shaped and have several beautiful colours. The upright petals are often a different colour to the drooping petals. This gives a nice colour contrast within a flower. Iris sibirica is a hardy perennial and grows well in the open ground. The plant has thick rhizomes. These thick roots should be planted shallow and nearly horizontal as soon as possible after receipt. First loosen the soil well. Improve heavy garden soil by mixing in sharp sand. Make a mound in the planting hole. Place the thick rhizomes of the irises about 1 cm below ground level on the mound. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. The planting distance is approx. 25-30 cm. These irises grow and flower well in a spot in full sun or semi-shade in well-drained, fairly dry soil. The sword-shaped, grey-green leaves die back in late summer, but new leaves appear as early as autumn. Cover the plants in winter with a layer of fallen leaves or some branches. In spring, cut off all the leaves. Soon new shoots will emerge again.
