Buy Chinese Fan Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) - 25 seeds?

Family: Arecaceae
Latin name: Trachycarpus fortunei
Dutch name: Chinese fan palm
Origin: China

The Chinese fan palm has been popular in Europe as a hardy palm since the 19th century. It has been popular in Europe as a hardy palm since the 19th century. In 1849, Scottish botanist Robert Fortune brought the species to Kew Gardens in London, where it was named after him. Before that, it had been planted for thousands of years in China and Japan because of the very strong fibres in its leaves. It could be used to make ropes, but also, for example, sturdy bags. Due to its long history, it is difficult to say where the species originated, but probably from the mountains of central China or the Himalayas. Young plants can withstand temperatures down to -8 °C, but older specimens can withstand temperatures down to -20 °C without protection. This makes it a suitable species for outdoors, where the palm can even flower. The male and female flowers grow in large clusters and are followed by many yellow fruits. The palm grows best in a sunny, sheltered spot with sufficient water. Less sun and a spot sheltered from the wind are also possible.
