Dragon blood tree (Dracaena draco) - Buy 5 Seeds?
The dragon blood tree is still rare in the wild, but there is an old specimen still standing in north-western Tenerife with an estimated age of 250 years. Because it is a monocotyledon, the trunk makes no annual rings and its age can only be estimated from the number of branches. The name dragon blood tree comes from the species' plant sap, which turns red when exposed to oxygen. After damage, it therefore looks as if the tree is bleeding. During the Middle Ages, it was believed that this red resin was blood of dragons. It is a slow grower that does well as a houseplant.
Sowing description: Scour the seeds a little and then soak in lukewarm water for 24 hours. Then sow in sowing soil, keep soil constantly moist, cover with cling film or glass and let germinate in a warm place in the house. Germination can take several weeks to months.
