Read moreAll kinds of plants are called flower bulbs or tubers!
The term flower bulbs is actually a collective name for many types of plants. They all have one thing in common: a "stock" is created by the plant underground. This can be a tuber, but also a bulb or rhizome. There are many different types of bulbs and tubers. garden-select.co.uk sells more than 1,000 varieties of them!
Bulbs and tubers can be planted in spring and autumn. Flower bulbs planted in autumn will flower between January and May. Flower bulbs planted in spring will flower from May to October. So planting flower bulbs brings colour to your garden almost all year round! The earlier bulbous plants are planted, the sooner they will take root and develop shoots. This certainly benefits the strength and development of your plants!
Planting your favourite bulbs and tubers
All bulbous and tuberous plants prefer a sunny to semi-shaded location. However, there are many bulbs and tubers that can be planted in a shady spot. These include blue grapes (Muscari), anemone (Anemone), ornamental onions (Allium), Spring Bell (Leucojum), wild or woodland hyacinth (Scilla), snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis), lapwing (Fritillaria meleagris).
The planting distance of your bulbs and tubers
We sell all our flower bulbs and tubers neatly packaged, with a clear planting description. This description clearly indicates the planting distance between the bulbs. For a striking effect of the planting during flowering, the bulbs should be planted as close as possible. Also keep an eye on the height of flowering: the higher varieties should not obscure the very low ones.
