Difficult choice: different crocuses
Crocuses are bright spring bloomers that take any garden to a more cheerful level. Want to enjoy their splendour next spring? Then you should get going with Crocus bulbs next autumn. Crocuses come in many varieties, colours and sizes, and the bulbs are easy to plant. You can give crocuses a home almost anywhere in the garden. However, most varieties prefer a spot in full sun or light shade. Always check the information on the packaging. Crocus bulbs can be divided into two types:
- Small-flowered Botanical Crocuses
- Large-flowered Crocuses
The difference is easy to guess. Mix & match them if you want to turn your garden into a fairytale spring garden.
When to plant crocus bulbs?
You plant the Crocus somewhere between September and December in open ground or a flower pot. Plant the crocus bulbs about 5 to 8 centimetres deep with a spacing of about 2.5 to 10 centimetres. However, these distances vary for each variety, so read the instructions on the packaging carefully. You can plant all types of crocuses interchangeably. The various colours of the Crocus make for a beautiful display that you can enjoy for a long time. When do crocuses bloom?", we hear you thinking. From February until April you can enjoy their pretty faces. So it's a downright early bird.
Naturalising crocuses
Crocuses re-emerge every spring. This makes crocus bulbs excellent for naturalising. Crocuses can be planted among ground cover, under shrubs or in the lawn. As the crocus propagates itself, you will see more and more colourful flowers appearing in the lawn. A beautiful picture, we think!

Crocuses are among the very first flowers to bloom every spring. In cold climates, you can often see their cheerful colours even when there is still snow on the ground. Crocus flowers come in all kinds of pastel colours; from purple, yellow, lavender, cream to white. Over time, these carefree bulbs will naturalise and multiply to produce more flowers every year. Crocus blossoms are magnets for winter-weary bees, attracted by the rich, golden pollen in each flower. For more tips, please refer to the planting instructions on the packaging of your bulbs.
